ChefScribe FAQ

Everything you need to know about turning YouTube cooking videos into calm, structured recipe cards — plus how saving, sharing, nutrition, and privacy work.

If you can’t find what you need here, you can also check the support link inside the extension. (ChefScribe is designed for desktop Chrome — extracted recipes can still be viewed on mobile via a share link.)

Getting started

The basics — what it does, who it’s for, and how to use it.

What does ChefScribe actually do?

ChefScribe takes a YouTube cooking video and turns it into a tidy written recipe you can actually cook from.

Click the extension while the video is open, and you’ll get a clear recipe card with ingredients and step-by-step instructions — so you’re not pausing, rewinding, and losing your place.

Who is ChefScribe for?

Anyone who finds it easier to cook from a calm written recipe than a fast-moving video.

It’s especially handy for beginners, busy cooks, visual learners, and people who love collecting recipes without the chaos.

How do I start?

Install the extension, open a cooking video on YouTube, and click the ChefScribe icon.

Your recipe should appear in seconds.

Can I cook along with ChefScribe?

Yes. ChefScribe is built for cooking alongside the video.

Use Check-Off Mode to tick ingredients and steps as you go — they’ll be crossed out, which makes it easy to keep your place.

Features

Serving size, nutrition, and the good bits you’ll use every day.

Can I change the serving size?

Yes — ChefScribe has a handy serving-size slider.

Move it up or down and the ingredient amounts update automatically.

No calculations. No guesswork. Just slide and cook.

Does ChefScribe show nutrition information?

It does. Each recipe includes nutrition details, and they adjust automatically when you change the serving size.

Note: nutrition depends on what can be reliably extracted from the recipe information in the video content.

Saving & sharing

Your recipe shelf, links, printing — and using recipes on your phone.

Where are my recipes saved?

Every recipe you extract is saved privately in your own Recipe Shelf inside ChefScribe.

It’s your personal collection — calm, organised, and easy to come back to any time.

If someone else extracts the same recipe, they get their own private copy. No one can see anyone else’s shelf.

Can I share recipes?

Yes — there’s a Share button.

It creates a simple link you can send to someone so they can view the recipe too.

Can I print recipes?

Absolutely. ChefScribe gives you a clean, no-clutter print view that’s perfect for the kitchen (or for keeping in a binder).

Does ChefScribe work on mobile?

ChefScribe is a desktop Chrome extension.

But once you extract a recipe, you can open it on your phone or tablet using a share link — handy for cooking in the kitchen while your laptop stays out of the splash zone.

Accounts

What needs an account (and what doesn’t).

Do I need an account?

You’ll need a free account to save recipes to your shelf, share them, or print them.

But you can test the extension itself without an account.

Is ChefScribe free to use?

ChefScribe is free to install on Chrome.

The free plan includes a small quota of free extractions to get you started. If you want unlimited usage, you can upgrade to Pro.

Privacy

The quick, straight answer: no creepy tracking.

Do you track what I watch on YouTube?

No. ChefScribe only activates when you click the button.

We don’t collect your YouTube viewing history or track your general browsing.

Are my saved recipes private?

Yes — your Recipe Shelf is private to your account.

Other users can’t see what you’ve saved, and they won’t see your ratings or activity.

Ownership & credit

Credit stays with creators — ChefScribe just makes cooking easier.

Does ChefScribe own the recipes?

No — not at all.

ChefScribe simply helps you turn publicly available YouTube cooking videos into written recipe cards. All credit stays with the original creators.
