Troubleshooting

1. The “Extract Recipe” button isn’t showing on YouTube

Try these steps:

✅ Make sure the extension is installed and turned on

  1. Go to chrome://extensions
  2. Find ChefScribe
  3. Make sure the toggle is blue (enabled)

Using Incognito mode?

Chrome blocks extensions in Incognito unless you allow them manually.

  1. Go to chrome://extensions
  2. Click Details under ChefScribe
  3. Turn on Allow in Incognito

Still not showing?

Refresh the YouTube page (or close and reopen the browser).


2. The recipe didn’t extract properly

Sometimes videos don’t follow a typical cooking format.

Try this:

  • Make sure the video is actually a recipe (some “chatty” lifestyle videos confuse the extractor)
  • Skip ahead in the video a little and try again
  • Refresh the page and click “Extract” once more

If the mistake is unusual or the steps look very wrong, please email us — we use these reports to improve ChefScribe.


3. My ingredients or steps look incomplete

This can happen if:

  • The creator speaks very quickly
  • The video has no voice
  • The ingredients aren’t shown clearly
  • Background music is too loud

Try clicking Extract again while the video is fully loaded.
If it keeps happening, send us the video link — we can take a look.


4. Where did all my recipes go?

If your recipe list looks empty:

✔️ Check that you’re logged in

Click the ChefScribe icon → make sure you’re signed in.

✔️ If you changed your browser or device

Your recipes stay linked to your account — not your computer —
so just sign in again and everything should reappear.


5. The nutrition slider isn’t updating

If the nutrition panel gets “stuck”:

  1. Refresh the recipe page
  2. Make sure you’re using a modern browser (Chrome recommended)
  3. Try dragging the slider slowly once — it should wake everything up

If ingredients still don’t adjust correctly, send us the recipe link so we can check.


6. I can’t print my recipe

Try this:

  • Make sure your browser’s pop-ups are allowed
  • Check your printer settings
  • Hit Print again after the recipe finishes loading
  • If using mobile: printing may behave differently depending on the device

7. Sharing doesn’t work on my phone

If the share buttons (WhatsApp, Messages, etc.) aren’t working:

  • Make sure your browser is up to date
  • Try using the Copy Link option instead
  • Some apps block pop-ups — using “Copy Link” avoids this

8. The extension suddenly stopped working

Do a quick “reset breath” for Chrome:

  1. Quit Chrome completely
  2. Reopen it
  3. Visit YouTube again

If that doesn’t do it:

  • Update Chrome
  • Turn ChefScribe off and on again from chrome://extensions

If all else fails, uninstall and reinstall the extension.
