Troubleshooting
Quick fixes for common ChefScribe issues
Why didn’t ChefScribe extract the recipe from the video?
- Check the Platform: Ensure you are watching the video on YouTube. ChefScribe is designed specifically for YouTube and may not work on other video sites or embedded players.
- Video Content: The extension relies on clear audio or visual data. If the video is a “vlog” style without a clear ingredients list or distinct steps, the extraction might fail or be incomplete.
- Refresh: Try refreshing the YouTube page and clicking the extension icon again.
Why are the ingredients or steps incomplete?
- Translation Status: If the video is in a foreign language, check if the Translate to English toggle is active.
- Manual Verification: Occasionally, AI extraction may miss an item. Compare the generated list with the video description to verify quantities.
Features & Functionality
Why won’t the “Copy shopping list” button work?
- Permissions: Your browser may be blocking the extension from accessing your clipboard. Ensure you have granted ChefScribe permission to copy text.
- Try Manual Copy: If the button fails, you can highlight the text in the Ingredients section manually and copy it.
Why did the nutritional numbers change unexpectedly?
- Check the Slider: You likely moved the Nutrition Breakdown slider. This feature automatically recalculates calories and macros based on the serving size selected (for example, changing from 12 to 24 servings). Move the slider back to the original number to revert the data.
I clicked “Share,” but the link isn’t opening for my friend.
- Public Access: Ensure the recipe has been fully saved to your library. When you click Copy Link or share to social media (X, Facebook, Pinterest), it generates a specific URL (for example,
recipes.chefscribe.com/...). Your friend needs internet access, but they do not need the extension installed to view the shared link.
Account & Access
I can’t save any more recipes. What is wrong?
- Free Limit Reached: Check your extension dashboard. If you see a message like
0/6 free extractions, you have used your free quota. You will need to upgrade to a Pro Member account to unlock unlimited extractions.
Why can’t I find the app on my phone?
- Desktop Only: ChefScribe is a Chrome browser extension, not a mobile app store application. To view recipes on your phone, extract them on your desktop first, then send the Copy Link URL to your mobile device.
How do I delete a recipe I saved by mistake?
- Locate the Trash Icon: Open the recipe card you wish to remove. Look for the Delete button (trash can icon) located in the top right corner of the interface.
