Legal Notice
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to the ChefScribe website, public recipe library, Chrome Extension and iPhone app.
ChefScribe helps you turn cooking videos into clean, structured recipe cards and organise them across your devices. We respect your privacy and believe in transparency. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, which third-party services may process it, and the choices you have.
1. Who We Are
ChefScribe is an independent service created to help home cooks extract, save, organise and plan recipes from cooking videos.
- Website: https://chefscribe.com
- Recipe Library: https://recipes.chefscribe.com
- Chrome Extension: ChefScribe (Chrome Web Store)
- iPhone App: ChefScribe for iOS
- Contact: hello@chefscribe.com
2. Information We Collect
We collect and process information that is reasonably necessary to provide, secure and improve ChefScribe.
A) Account Information
If you create or use a ChefScribe account, we may process:
- Email address
- Account identifier and authentication information
- Basic profile information supplied by your chosen sign-in provider, where available
- Your subscription plan and account status
ChefScribe supports email sign-in and may also offer third-party authentication such as Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, Apple may provide ChefScribe with a private relay email address instead of your personal email address.
B) Recipe and App Data
When you use ChefScribe, we may process information needed to provide its features, including:
- YouTube or other supported cooking-video URLs that you choose to import
- Recipe titles, ingredients, steps, servings, timing and nutrition information created or saved through ChefScribe
- Folders, favourites, meal-planning information and other organisational data
- Recipe source information such as the original video URL and creator/channel name
Recipe content derived from publicly available cooking videos may be displayed in ChefScribe's public recipe library together with attribution and a link back to the original source. ChefScribe should not be used to store sensitive personal information in recipe fields.
C) Information You Provide Voluntarily
- Contact details if you email us
- Comments or form submissions if enabled on the site
- Information you provide when requesting support or reporting a problem
D) Automatically Collected Website and Technical Data
When visiting the ChefScribe website or using the service, standard technical information may be processed by ChefScribe or its service providers, such as:
- IP address
- Browser, operating system and device type
- Pages or features used
- Approximate timestamps and referring URLs
- Basic diagnostic, security and error information
This information is used to keep the service secure, understand usage, diagnose faults and improve reliability and performance.
E) Data Processed by the Chrome Extension
The ChefScribe Chrome Extension is designed to operate only when you choose to use it. It does not need to build a general history of your browsing activity.
- It processes the cooking-video page or URL that you actively choose to extract
- Relevant information may be sent to ChefScribe services to create and save the recipe
- It is not intended to collect unrelated browsing history
- Your signed-in ChefScribe account may be used to sync recipes, folders and subscription access
F) Data Processed by the iPhone App
The ChefScribe iPhone app may process the same account and recipe information as the website and Chrome Extension so that your library can stay synchronised across devices. When you use the iOS Share Sheet or paste a video URL, the URL you choose to share may be sent to ChefScribe for recipe extraction.
G) Media Uploads
If you upload images to the website or service, please avoid uploading files containing unnecessary embedded location (GPS) data.
3. How We Use Information
We use information for purposes such as:
- Creating, saving and synchronising recipes
- Providing account sign-in and account security
- Providing folders, meal planning, nutrition and other ChefScribe features
- Managing Free and Pro access
- Processing and verifying subscription status
- Providing customer support
- Preventing abuse, fraud and security incidents
- Monitoring reliability and improving the service
- Meeting legal, tax, accounting or regulatory obligations where applicable
4. Sign in with Apple and Google
If you choose a third-party sign-in method, the relevant provider processes your authentication request under its own privacy policy. ChefScribe receives only the account information the provider makes available and that is needed to establish or access your ChefScribe account.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple may provide an Apple account identifier, your name on first authorisation where available, and either your email address or an Apple private relay address.
- Google: Google Sign-In may provide an account identifier, email address and basic profile information that you permit Google to share.
ChefScribe does not receive your Apple ID or Google password.
5. Apple App Store Purchases and Subscriptions
If you purchase ChefScribe Pro through the iPhone app, payment is processed by Apple through the App Store. ChefScribe does not receive your full payment-card details from Apple.
ChefScribe may receive and store information needed to verify and manage your subscription, such as product identifiers, transaction or purchase identifiers, subscription status and expiry information. Apple may separately process billing, purchase and account information under Apple's own privacy terms.
6. Cookies & Similar Technologies
Cookies and similar technologies may be used on the website to keep the service functioning correctly and, where applicable, understand usage.
Essential Cookies
- Session and login cookies
- Security and spam-prevention cookies
- Core website and WordPress functionality cookies
Optional Cookies
- Analytics cookies, if enabled and where consent is required
- YouTube or other embedded-content cookies

You can manage or disable cookies using your browser settings. Where a consent tool is provided, you can also use it to manage optional cookies.
7. Embedded Content and External Links
ChefScribe may display or link to content from third-party services such as YouTube. When you open or interact with third-party content, that provider may process information such as your IP address, device information, cookies and interaction data.
Third-party privacy policies apply to your interactions with those services. ChefScribe is not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites or services.

We do not sell or rent personal data. We may share or make data available to trusted service providers where reasonably necessary to operate ChefScribe.
These may include:

9. Data Retention
User Accounts
Account information is generally stored for as long as your ChefScribe account remains active and for any additional period reasonably required for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or legal obligations.
Recipes and Saved App Data
Recipes, folders and meal-planning data associated with your account may be retained while your account is active. Some recipe information based on publicly available source videos may remain in the public ChefScribe recipe library even after an individual user's account data is deleted, where that recipe is maintained as public source content rather than private account data.
Subscription Records
Limited purchase and subscription records may be retained where needed for account administration, fraud prevention, accounting, tax or legal purposes.
Comments and Contact Messages
Comments and related metadata may be retained for moderation. Emails and support messages may be retained for customer support or administrative purposes.
10. Account Deletion
ChefScribe users can initiate deletion of their account from within the iPhone app where that feature is available. You can also contact hello@chefscribe.com for help with an account or privacy request.
Account deletion is intended to remove or anonymise personal account data that ChefScribe is not required to retain. Some information may be retained where required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting or dispute-resolution purposes.
Deleting a ChefScribe account does not automatically cancel an Apple App Store subscription. App Store subscriptions should also be managed or cancelled through your Apple account or the App Store subscription settings.
11. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, including under UK or European data-protection law where applicable, you may have rights such as:
- ✔ Access your personal data
- ✔ Correct inaccurate personal data
- ✔ Request deletion of personal data
- ✔ Request restriction of certain processing
- ✔ Object to certain processing
- ✔ Request portability of certain data where applicable
- ✔ Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent
Requests can be made by emailing hello@chefscribe.com. We aim to respond within the time required by applicable law.
12. Legal Bases for Processing
Where UK GDPR, EU GDPR or similar law applies, ChefScribe may rely on one or more lawful bases depending on the activity, including:
- Contract: to provide the ChefScribe service you request
- Legitimate interests: to secure, maintain and improve ChefScribe, prevent abuse and provide support
- Consent: where consent is required, for example for certain optional cookies or marketing activities
- Legal obligation: where information must be retained or disclosed to comply with law
13. Where Data Is Processed
ChefScribe and its service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required by applicable data-protection law, appropriate safeguards are used for international transfers.
Providers such as Supabase, Apple, Google, hosting services and other infrastructure providers may operate systems in multiple countries and are subject to their own privacy and data-transfer arrangements.
14. Children’s Privacy
ChefScribe is not intended for children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to ChefScribe, please contact us so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.
15. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data, which may include:
- HTTPS encryption
- Managed authentication and access controls
- Restricted administrative access
- Security monitoring and abuse prevention
- Regular software and dependency updates
No internet service can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect ChefScribe and its users.
16. Policy Updates
This policy may be updated from time to time as ChefScribe, its apps or its service providers change. Any changes will be published on this page with a revised date.
