Questions, answered without the kitchen chaos.

Everything you need to know about making recipes inspired by YouTube cooking videos, including saving, sharing, nutrition, privacy, and creator credit.

Getting started

What ChefScribe does, who it is for, and how to use it.

What does ChefScribe actually do?

ChefScribe uses a YouTube cooking video’s title and description, plus your preferences, to generate a new recipe inspired by the dish. It does not extract or verify the ingredients or steps shown in the video.

Open the video, click the ChefScribe extension, and the recipe appears without all the pausing, rewinding, and losing your place.

Who is ChefScribe for?

ChefScribe is for anyone who finds it easier to cook from a calm written recipe than a fast-moving video.

It is especially useful for beginners, busy cooks, visual learners, and people who enjoy collecting recipes.

How do I start?

Install the ChefScribe Chrome extension, open a cooking video on YouTube, and click the ChefScribe icon.

ChefScribe will create a new recipe suggestion. Review it before cooking; it may differ from the video.

Can I cook along with ChefScribe?

Yes. ChefScribe is designed for cooking alongside the original video.

Use Check-Off Mode to tick off ingredients and steps as you go, so it is easy to keep your place.

Features

Serving sizes, nutrition, and the tools you will use while cooking.

Can I change the serving size?

Yes. Use the serving-size control to increase or reduce the number of portions.

ChefScribe adjusts the ingredient amounts automatically, so there is no calculator wrestling required.

Does ChefScribe show nutrition information?

ChefScribe can provide estimated nutrition information when there is enough reliable recipe information to work from.

Nutrition values may change when you adjust the serving size and should be treated as estimates rather than medical or dietary advice.

Saving and sharing

Your Recipe Shelf, sharing links, printing, and mobile viewing.

Where are my recipes saved?

Your saved library is associated with your account.

Recipe content derived from public videos may also appear in the public recipe library. Do not add sensitive personal information to recipe fields.

Can I share recipes?

Yes. Use the Share button to create a link that someone else can open in their browser.

Can I print recipes?

Yes. ChefScribe includes a clean print view without the usual webpage clutter, which is handy for cooking or keeping recipes in a binder.

Does ChefScribe work on mobile?

ChefScribe is available as a desktop Chrome extension, a web app and an iPhone app.

Use the same account across devices to access your saved recipes.

Accounts and plans

What needs an account and what is included in each plan.

Do I need an account?

You need a free ChefScribe account to keep recipes in your Recipe Shelf and use account-based features such as sharing and printing.

Is ChefScribe free to use?

Yes. ChefScribe is free to install, and the free plan includes 12 recipe creations each month.

ChefScribe Pro includes 100 recipe creations per month.

Privacy

Clear answers about what ChefScribe does and does not track.

Do you track what I watch on YouTube?

No. ChefScribe activates when you choose to use it on a video.

It does not collect your general YouTube viewing history or follow your browsing around the web.

Are my saved recipes private?

Recipes in your app library are private unless you choose to share or publish them. Public recipe pages are separate and may display ChefScribe-generated recipes with a link to the video that inspired them.

Creators, ownership and credit

ChefScribe creates new recipes inspired by video metadata and user preferences.

Does ChefScribe own the recipes?

No. ChefScribe is a companion tool that helps viewers follow cooking videos more easily.

The video is an inspiration reference. ChefScribe creates a new recipe from its title and description and your preferences; it does not verify that recipe against the video.
